Administrative HistoryWoolston Community High School, Warrington, first opened as a secondary school in September 1957 and closed in August 2012. The school was governed by the Warrington Borough Council Local Education Authority at the point of its closure in August 2012, having previously been under the jurisdiction of Cheshire and Lancashire Education Authorities.
The school building was expanded throughout the years to accommodate the growing number of students in attendance. However, the numbers eventually started to reduce, after the establishment of other secondary schools in the area.
Warrington Borough Council identified that the amount of school places needed in Central and East Warrington were reducing by 2006. After several reviews of educational provisions, conducted in 2006 and 2007, the Executive Board of the council decided to close the school, with effect from August 2012. Existing students were transferred to other high schools in the area, whilst the feeder primary school students were directed to schools such as Birchwood Community High School and Culcheth High School.
